(a)   Every child deserves the right to nutritious food and good education. After the two years of pandemic, it is estimated that 405 million children worldwide may have dropped out of the schooling system due to poverty, displacement and lack of resources. Write a project report on the stepsthat can be taken at the micro and macro levels to bring back these children to school and empower them to take the first step towards their dreams.

Ans-

Introduction– Schools provide a safe and stimulating environment to children for learning, education, physical activities, socialisation, and cater to their nutritional needs through mid-day meal program. UNICEF’s ‘Lives Upended’ report describes the consequences of the pandemic on nearly 600 million children in South Asia, including India. School closure has resulted in stress among the children and their families and they are more likely to suffer from anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder during and after COVID-19 epidemic .

The steps that can be taken at the micro andmacro levels to bring back these children to school and empower them to take thefirst step towards their dreams:-

  • The school administration should designate responsible staff member(s) to define and execute standard operating protocols, keeping in tandem with the local administration guidelines.
  • The policy should mandatorily include redressing the curriculum, curtailing the school hours, staggering the students and disinfection and hygiene protocols. The school reopen-ing should mainly aim for school connectedness, psychosocial well-being and stress-free learning of the children.
  • Adequate staff including a counsellor and a medical nurse should be recruited. Staff above 60 and those with co-morbidities should be adjusted in work from home mode. The policy of ‘Staying home if not well’ should be in place for everyone.

Infrastructural changes:

  • The entire school premises should be thoroughly cleaned and sanitised. New hygiene rules should be displayed in pictorial and child friendly manner in the premises.

  1. Answer any one of the following questions in about 40-60 words.

(a) Two vector quantities are represented by :

r= rxi + ryj, F = Fxi +Fyj Write the scalar, and vector products of these quantities. Give the names of two physical quantities which are obtained as the scalar product and vector product of two vector quantities.

Ans: The scalar product (dot product) of two vector quantities r and F is given by:

r · F = (rx × Fx) + (ry × Fy)

The vector product (cross product) of two vector quantities r and F is given by:

r × F = (rx × Fy – ry × Fx)k

Where:

– rx and ry are the components of vector r.

– Fx and Fy are the components of vector F.

– k is the unit vector in the z-direction.

Two physical quantities obtained from these products are:

  1. Scalar Product (Dot Product):The scalar product yields a scalar quantity, representing the magnitude of the projection of one vector onto the other. It is often used to calculate work done (W) when a force (F) is applied along a displacement (r):

W = r · F

  1. Vector Product (Cross Product):The vector product results in a vector quantity perpendicular to the plane formed by the two input vectors. It’s commonly used to calculate torque (τ) when a force (F) is applied at a distance (r) from a point:

τ = r × F

  1. Answer any one of the following questions in about 40-60 words.

(b). The distance of the image formed by anequi-convex lens, in air, from its second focus, x2=30 cm, while the distance of the object from the first focus is, x1= 10 cm. calculate the focal length of the lens.

Ans: The focal length of the equi-convex lens can be calcuated using the lens formula;

1/(focal length)= (1/X1+ 1/X2)

Given that X1=10cm and X2= 30 cm, we can get

1/f= 1/10+1/30

1/f= 4/30  ( we add the fraction )

To find the local length , we can take reciprocal;

Focal length= 30/4= 7.4 Cm

(b). The magnifying power of an astronomical telescope is 100. In its normal adjustment the distance between the centres of the objective and eye piece of the telescope is 8.08 m. calculate the values of focal lengths of the objective and eye piece of the telescope.

Ans: The magnifying power of an astronomical telescope is 100, an its distance between the objective and eye piece is 8.08m. We need  to find the focal lengths of the objective and eye piece. To do this we can we the formula for magnifying power, which is the ratio of the focal length of the objective to the focal length of the eye piece.Read More »

(a). In Physics books you might have noticed the mass of earth to be 5.97×10 24 kg. Suggest a method by which the scientists find out the mass of earth.

Ans: scientist determine the mass of the earth using a method called “ canvendish experiment”. First they to know the gravitational  constant (G) , a fundamental values in physics. Then they set up a delicate apparatus with large land sphere and two smaller masses attached to opposite and of a horizontal bar.

The scientist measure the gravitational attraction between the smaller masses and the large lead sphere. The experiment requires , extreme precision because gravitational force between  everyay objects are incredibly weak. By carefully observing the slight twisting motion of the bar due to gravitational attraction , they can calculate the gravational force.Read More »

(a).You are provided with two identical looking spheres A and B having equal masses and radii made of different materials. Actually one of them is a solid sphere and the other is a spherical shell. Suggest an experiment to find out which of the two is hallow from within. Give reason in support of your answer.

Ans: To find out which spehere is hollow from with in you can conuct a simple experiment using a rigid  surface , like a table bar floor.First , place sphere A on the  surface and give it a gentle push.Observe its motion and note how its rools or moves.

Next do the same with sphere B, the second sphere.If you observe the same rolling or movement pattern for both sphere , it means they both have the same mass distribution , indicating they are both soli or both hallow.

However , if you notice a difference in the way the roll, with one of them wobbling or rolling unevenly ,its suggests that the mass is not evenly distributed inside the sphere.This would mean that sphere B is the the solid one, sphere A is the hallow spherical shell.

(b). Kinetic Theory of gases provides us the equation p=1/3 m nc2 using this equation derives the following laws:

  1. Boyle’s Law
  2. Chari’s Law
  3. Gay-Lussac’s Law
  4. Avogadro’s Law
  5. Daltons Law of partial pressures
  6. Graham’s Law of diffusion

Ans:

Introduction: The kinetic Theory of gasses is a fundamental concept in under standing the behavior of gasses at the molecular level.It provides  a useful equation reating pressure , volume ,and temperature of an ideal gas , known as the ideal gas law; PV=nRT where p is the pressure,v is the volume, n is the number of molecules, R is the universal gas constant and T is the temperature. From this equation , we can drive several important gas laws that governthe behavior of gasses under various conditions. In this project , we will derive six gas law using the kinetic theory equation p=1/3 mnc2 , where m is the mass of one gas molecule, n is the number of molecule, and c is the root mean square velocity.

  1. Boyle’s Law: Boyle’s law states that the pressure of a given amount of gas is inversely propotional to its volume  at constant temperature. Mathematically, it can be expressed as P1V1=P2V2  TO derive this law using the kinetic theory equation , we consider two states of the same gas with volumes V1 and V2 and the same number of molecule(m) Since, temperature(T) is contant we have :

P1V1= (1/3) mnc…………..equation ……(1)

P2V2= (1/3) mnc2…………….. equation …..(2)

Dividing equation 1 by equation 2

P1/P2=V1/V2 This confirms Boyle’s law.

2.Charle’s Law: Charle’s Law states that the volume of  given amount of gas is directly proportional to its temperature at constant pressure .Mathematically, it can be expressed V1/T1=V2/T2 .To derive this law, we use the kinetic theory equation:

P= (1/3) mnc2 ……………equation …………(3)

Also, from the ideal gas PV=nRT,we can write P=nRT/V

Substituting the value of P from equation 3 into the ideal  gas law equation ;

(1/3) mnc2= nRT/V

Rearranging, V/T= 1/3 mnc2/NR
